The Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requires employers to obtain, where necessary, the services of a “competent person” to: – Assist in ensuring the safety, health and welfare of his or her employees (Section 8, General duties of employer.) – Perform functions relating to the protection from and the prevention of risks (Section 18, Protective and Preventive Measures) The “competent person”, depending on the risks involved and the size of the undertaking, could include a person who is able to give informed and appropriate general advice on health and safety to management as well as a person with specialised technical knowledge of specific matters (e.g. electrical work, lifting operations, chemical exposure etc.). How can Nifast help? The Nifast consultants are widely experienced and can act as “competent persons” for your organisation. – For smaller companies without a competent Safety Officer, Nifast can provide a “competent person”. - Nifast can provide cover and continuity if your “competent person” is absent from the workplace for an extended period (e.g. career break, maternity leave). – You may be starting a specific project which requires extra manpower. In these circumstances, our consultants can be secured on a full-time or part-time basis (e.g. specified number of days per week), or for a specific assignment. |
