The Penalty Points System was introduced on 31st October 2002. There are now 41 penalty point offences.

Penalty Points obtained stay on your record for 3 years. If you receive 12 points, you are automatically disqualified for 6 months.

As of 31st March 2009, over 752,000 penalty points have been issued.
