Environmental Noise Assessment

The noise produced by the activities within your site boundaries can affect neighbouring premises. It may cause nuisance for residents, and can seriously damage your public image.

Integrated Pollution Prevention Control Licence

If your company is subject to an Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) Licence issued by the Environmental Protection Agency, it is likely the noise emanating from the site is subject to limits set within the licence.  The licence will require an annual survey to be completed to assess compliance with these limits.

Assessment Process

A Nifast Consultant will visit your premises to measure the noise levels using a sound level meter.  The LAeq, L10 and L90 will be determined at each sample point.

Depending on the terms of your IPPC Licence, measurements will be taken at:

   – Designated noise sources within the site boundary, usually close to noise emitting plant and machinery

   – Designated locations at the site boundary

   – Designated noise sensitive locations, often neighbouring residences outside of the site boundary.

If your IPPC Licence specifies both day-time and night-time limits (day-time is 8am to 10pm, night-time is 10pm to 8am), the monitoring will be carried out accordingly.

Report

A detailed assessment report will be issued.  The report will provide the results of the monitoring and observations made during the visit.

The data from the assessment can be used to complete the annual returns for your IPPC Licence.
