What is Stress? Signs of Stress Changes in behaviour or appearance are the first signs that indicate employees may be suffering from excessive pressure or stress. Some of the changes that may occur are: Work performance - Loss of control over work, Loss of motivation/commitment, Indecision, Lapses in memory, Increased time at work Withdrawal - Arriving late to work, Leaving early, Extended lunches, Absenteeism, Aggressive behaviour -Malicious gossip, Criticism of others, Shouting, Bullying or Harassment, Poor employee relations, Temper outbursts Physical signs - Sweating, Tiredness / Lethargy, Upset Stomach, Tension Headaches Stress in the workplace has to be properly managed if it is to be controlled. A participative management style and a positive approach to managing workplace stress can help people to work more effectively.
