Course Details

The Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 reinforces the general duty on Employers to prepare a Safety Statement for their business. Your Safety Statement is your safety management system in writing and is a legal document, which supports your legal obligations. The course programme deals with the implications of the new Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act and how this will impact on your Safety Statement Documentation.

Objectives
On completion of this programme participants will be able to:

  • Describe the structure of a Safety Statement
  • State approaches which can be adopted in it`s preparation
  • Update their safety statement in line with recent legislative changes
  • List the implications of Health and Safety legislation on the organisation
  • Monitor and review the safety statement on an on-going basis

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Legislation overview including: The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, General Application Regulations 1993, additional legislation
  • Structure of the safety statement
  • Approach to compiling the safety statement: policy development, structure and format, who should do what
  • Organising for safety: management`s role, responsibilities and input
  • Risk assessment - a practical approach
  • Active and reactive monitoring
  • Practical exercises
  • Implementing the safety statement
  • Revision and monitoring of the safety statement

English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter they may do so but prior notice must be given to nifast.
