Programme Objectives - To increase concentration, observation and anticipation of risk for drivers of trailer towing - To help eliminate unsafe driving practices and improve driver attitudes and awareness - To enable drivers to implement the principles of Safe Driving with Trailers - Contribute to the prevention of accidents Programme Content Theory Session - Approximately 90 minutes Jeep & Trailer Information on the following: - Max length of trailer / Max length of trailer & jeep - Braking System. Subject to weight & length of trailer - Overall train weight (permitted) - Side space, turning into tight junctions - Weight of load in relation to weight of jeep - Tail swing / jacknife & why it happens - Trailer Lights - Parking Safely - Safe loading and securing of loads - Safety Triangles Practical Session – On-Road - Coupling and Uncoupling - Driving with trailer in busy areas - Negotiating roundabouts / Overtaking / Parking - Reversing in a straight line for reasonable distance - Reversing to the left and to the right – practice until comfortable with manoeuvre using over the shoulder and mirrors method - Emergency braking both loaded and unloaded - Safe approach to inclines/slopes Performance Assessments: On completion, each participant will receive a detailed personal report upon completion of the course, constructive feedback, course material and a certificate of attendance. |
